Terms of Service

Last updated: October 22, 2026 · This is the same text that ships inside the RainVoid app. The app and this page are updated together.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Appleseed Media LLC (“we”, “us”) governing your use of the RainVoid™ application (“the App”). By installing or using the App you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the App.

1. WHAT THE APP DOES, AND WHO MAY USE IT

You must be at least 16 years old, and legally allowed to ride or drive where you use the App, to use it; the App is not directed at children (Privacy Policy section 10). The App has no accounts: anything done on your installation — a shared place, a review, a report, a purchase — counts as done by you. Keep your device secured, and if you let someone else use the App on your phone, you accept what they do with it.

RainVoid plans road routes and estimates where and when rain may intersect them, using public weather radar; short-term rain-motion forecasts (“nowcasts”) — computed by RainVoid’s own proprietary software from that radar in the United States, and supplied by third-party radar services elsewhere; third-party forecast data; and road routing supplied by third-party services. It offers route options, shelter-stop suggestions, departure-timing suggestions, and en-route advisories. All of it is an estimate.

2. SAFETY-CRITICAL WARNING

THE APP IS AN AID, NEVER A GUARANTEE. Weather radar can miss rain entirely, show rain that never reaches the ground, lag many minutes behind reality, or be unavailable in your region. Nowcasts and forecasts are model output and are frequently wrong. Roads, closures, and travel times change without notice. YOU are solely responsible for every decision you make while travelling — including whether to ride at all, which route to take, when to stop, and how to respond to weather. Never rely on the App as your only source of weather or routing information, and never delay seeking shelter because the App shows a dry outlook. NO GUARANTEE OF STAYING DRY: the App cannot promise that you, your passengers, your vehicle or your cargo will stay dry. Radar cannot see every drop, forecasts are estimates, and weather changes faster than any forecast. If you get wet, cold, delayed or otherwise affected by weather while using the App, that is a risk you accept by using it. Lightning and hail heads-ups, where offered, are derived from NOAA MRMS products (lightning density from the National Lightning Detection Network as MRMS distributes it, hail size estimated from radar). The App may route around hail as it does around rain, or offer cover, a dry road or turning back; none of this is a promise that no lightning or hail will be met.

3. DO NOT OPERATE WHILE MOVING

Do not look at, touch, or otherwise interact with the App while your vehicle is in motion. Pull over safely and completely before planning, reading, or adjusting anything. Glancing at a phone while riding or driving can be fatal and may be illegal where you are. Voice announcements exist so the screen can stay untouched; they are a convenience, not an invitation to use the screen.

4. NO WARRANTY

THE APP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, AVAILABILITY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, timely, error-free, or that weather information will be accurate or complete.

5. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, APPLESEED MEDIA LLC AND ITS MEMBERS, MANAGERS, OWNERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, LICENSORS AND SUPPLIERS (TOGETHER, THE “RELEASED PARTIES”) SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, NOR FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURY, DEATH, PROPERTY DAMAGE, LOST PROFITS, OR LOST DATA, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE APP — INCLUDING DECISIONS MADE IN RELIANCE ON WEATHER OR ROUTING INFORMATION, GETTING WET, RADAR GAPS OR LATENCY, LACK OF RADAR COVERAGE WHERE YOU ARE, THIRD-PARTY SERVICE CHANGES OR OUTAGES, OR LOSS OF ACCESS TO THE APP — EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. WHERE LIABILITY CANNOT BE EXCLUDED, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM (WHICH, WHILE THE APP IS FREE OF CHARGE, IS ZERO) OR THE MINIMUM AMOUNT REQUIRED BY LAW. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions; parts of this section may not apply to you.

5A. ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND RELEASE

Travelling by motorcycle or any other vehicle, in or near weather, is inherently dangerous. You use the App at your own risk, and you alone decide whether, where and when to travel. To the maximum extent permitted by law, you release and discharge the Released Parties from every claim, demand, loss and liability of any kind, known or unknown, arising out of or connected with your use of or reliance on the App — including getting wet, hypothermia or other exposure to weather, crashes, injury, death, damage to your vehicle, cargo or belongings, delays, missed appointments, fines, and any decision you or a passenger made with the App open or in mind. Appleseed Media LLC and its members and owners are not your weather service, your navigator or your insurer.

6. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

You agree to: (a) obey all traffic laws and never operate the App while moving; (b) use your own judgment about weather and road conditions; (c) keep your device mounted, charged, and secured in a way that does not interfere with vehicle control; (d) not rely on the App for emergency situations — it is not an emergency service.

7. ACCEPTABLE USE

You may not: (a) copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or redistribute the App except where the law expressly permits; (b) use the App to build a competing dataset or to bulk-harvest data from the services it connects to; (c) circumvent technical limits, quotas, or attribution; (d) use the App in any unlawful way.

8. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES AND DATA

The App displays and depends on data and services from third parties, including Mapbox (maps, routing, navigation), NOAA (United States public-domain weather radar data — MRMS — which we process into RainVoid’s radar and nowcast layers; no NOAA endorsement is implied), the U.S. National Weather Service (NOAA; public-domain forecast data, no endorsement implied), Lyft Bikes and Scooters, LLC (live shared-ride availability in bike mode, under its Data License Agreement; no affiliation or endorsement), the transit agencies whose public schedules and live trip updates our server reads in walking mode — MassDOT/MBTA, the MTA (data obtained from the MTA and redistributed through our server; the MTA does not license or endorse the App, and its times may lag the MTA’s own by more than a minute), the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA — its published schedule, so its times are scheduled until its live arrivals are read; data provided by CTA), WMATA and 511 SF Bay (the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Bay Area agencies) — under their data agreements, with no affiliation or endorsement, and Uber and Lyft (opened by your own tap from the Call a ride row with your destination; their terms govern the ride; no affiliation or endorsement), OpenStreetMap contributors (map and place data), Foursquare (place ratings), and Google (place search). Their data is theirs, is provided under their own terms and licenses, and may change or become unavailable at any time. Attribution shown in the App must not be removed. We are not responsible for third-party services. Weather radar is available only in the regions listed on the App’s coverage page; elsewhere the App provides routing and stop suggestions without radar and says so on screen — it makes no rain prediction there.

8A. COVERAGE, FEES AND NO REFUNDS

Live radar and RainVoid Futurecast are available only in the regions listed on the App’s coverage page and on its store listing (today, the United States); everywhere else the App routes and finds stops without radar and says so on screen. It is your responsibility to check coverage for the places you ride BEFORE you install the App or pay for anything. Where the App or any feature is offered for a fee — including a subscription that begins with a free trial — every payment is final and non-refundable, including when radar coverage is unavailable where you live or travel, when the weather does what the App did not predict, when a third-party service changes or stops, or when you stop using the App. A refund is given only where applicable law requires one or under the app store’s own refund policy: purchases are processed by the app store (Google Play), never by us, and any refund request goes to the store, which decides under its policy. Where a subscription is offered, its price, trial length and renewal terms are shown in the store’s purchase flow before you agree; it renews automatically at the end of each term at the price you signed up at — your price stays what you pay today for as long as your subscription continues without a break, and a price change for new subscribers never raises it — unless you cancel it in the store before the renewal; cancelling stops future charges and does not refund the current term, and you keep the App until the end of the term you paid for; the store shows any taxes; we may change prices for new subscriptions with notice through the store, and an existing subscription keeps its price. The App is sold as a yearly plan that starts with a free trial and a monthly plan without one, both renewing automatically until cancelled; the prices in your currency are shown in Google Play before you agree. We never see your payment card details.

9. RIDER REPORTS, REVIEWS AND COMMUNITY PLACES

Where the App lets you report rain or review stops, you agree your reports are honest and based on direct observation. Rain reports and reviews influence advice shown to you and are stored on your device; each star you tap on a stop also posts that review to our server for all riders, anonymously (Privacy Policy, section 4), under the same grant and rules as Community Places below, unless you keep it private or remove it, and we may remove any review at any time.

If you turn sharing on, places and covered stops you add (“Community Places”) are published to all riders. For every Community Place you submit, you: (a) confirm it is a real place that the public may use — never private property, a private driveway or garage, or anyone’s home; (b) confirm its name and details are accurate and contain no personal information about anyone; (c) grant Appleseed Media LLC a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, adapt and distribute the submission in the App and related services, and to remove it at any time for any reason. Community Places are UNVERIFIED submissions from other riders: a place may not exist, may be closed, inaccessible, or unsafe. Use them at your own risk, obey signs, laws and property rights, and never trespass. You can report a Community Place from its card; we act on reports and may remove content or bar contributors without notice. A property owner or business that wants a place removed can write to support@rainvoid.app. The App also shows stops and cover drawn from OpenStreetMap (fuel stations, cafés, restaurants, convenience stores, shelters and canopies), served from our own server as a separate table under the Open Database License (© OpenStreetMap contributors); they are not Community Places, and they may be wrong, closed or gone.

10. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

RainVoid™, RainVoid Futurecast™, the RainVoid logo and mark, and the App itself — its software, design, text, graphics, data compilations and documentation — are the intellectual property of Appleseed Media LLC, protected as trademarks and as copyrighted works under the laws of the United States and other countries. The ™ symbol marks our trademark rights whether or not a registration has issued. These Terms give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on your own devices for its intended purpose. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, sublicense, reverse-engineer, decompile, scrape or create derivative works from the App or any part of it, and you may not use our names, marks or logo in any product, service, domain name or marketing without our prior written permission. Appleseed Media LLC reserves all rights not expressly granted, including the right to seek injunctive relief and monetary damages for infringement under the Lanham Act, the Copyright Act and other applicable law. Data supplied by third parties remains theirs, as section 8 says.

11. CHANGES AND TERMINATION

We may update, change, or discontinue the App or any feature at any time without notice. We may update these Terms; the current version is always available inside the App, with its “last updated” date. Continuing to use the App after a change means you accept the updated Terms. You may stop using the App at any time; uninstalling it removes its local data.

12. INDEMNIFICATION

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Appleseed Media LLC and its members, managers, owners, officers, employees, contractors, licensors and suppliers from and against all claims, demands, liabilities, damages, losses, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: your use of or reliance on the App; any injury, death, property damage, loss or delay suffered by you, a passenger or any third party in connection with your travel or your use of the App; your violation of these Terms or of any law or regulation; your violation of any third-party right; and any content or place you submit. This obligation survives your ending use of the App and any termination of these Terms.

13. SEVERABILITY AND ENTIRE AGREEMENT

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These Terms plus the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the App.

14. GOVERNING LAW

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Dakota, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute that the law allows to be heard in a chosen court will be heard in the state or federal courts located in South Dakota, except where the mandatory consumer-protection law of your country or state of residence gives you the right to a different law or court, in which case that right applies.

15. CONSUMER RIGHTS NOTICE

Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law where you live, including in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Canada and Taiwan. Where the App is provided free of charge it is not a purchase, and statutory withdrawal periods for paid digital content do not apply. Where you pay for a feature, consumers in some places (including the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom) have a right to withdraw within 14 days of buying digital content unless they asked for immediate delivery and acknowledged that the right is then lost — the app store’s purchase flow records that acknowledgement, and otherwise section 8A applies. Where the law of your country grants you rights that conflict with sections 4, 5, 5A, 8A or 12, those rights prevail to the extent required.
